Layer upon layer of lacquer is applied in the production method. Final product are then polished to a smooth and glossy finish..

This marble swirl design resembling the rings of tree trunks is a well-known effect that comes from carving of the chopsticks after the layers of lacquer. Swirl designs are carved inwards to expose lacquer layers.

Wakasa Japanese lacquered chopsticks are extremely labor intensive to produce and are highly regarded as a perfected art of chopsticks craftsmanship.
