Best Present Ever,

I lived in Japan for a year in 94-95. I had purchases a lot of dinner wear while there . I loved it, I continued to use it until I lost everything in a house fire in 2017. My sister bought me these as a gift and I am so happy to have them. They look wonderful in my new kitchen! I am sure we will use them for years like before!

My daughter picked this out and man I love the print, color, and quality of the donburi bowl. I served Mapu Tofu in it last night and Tonjiru tonight. She loves that her food is served in Japanese dishware.

I have been using donburi for years. With the lid it's an excellent way to heat in a microwave and it's very good for storing leftovers. I eat at least half my meals in these bowels. The price for these bowels seems high particularly compared to the ones I bought many years ago but after a search on the web I think this is a fair price. If you're in San Francisco check out the prices at the Japanese market. I particularly like the design of this one but I also have some in the earthen blue color. Related to a comment by another reviewer I have broken a number of tops, sometimes due to my own klutziness but I agree that there may be problem with the grip on the lid. On the whole I recommend this product whole heartedly.

Really good Donburi Bowls .....

Received them sooner than expected. I know Japanese dishes and these are good quality for everyday use. Lids fit good. Plenty of lid handle to grab on to. These are quite typical for Japanese lids by the way so,if your not used to it these ARE correct handles. Works great for Donburi and Udon and any other noodle or rice bowl dish you want to put in it. Lids also make great plates for salad or pickles or even to use as low bowls for Nabemono. Very happy with these.

Perfectly balanced, great feel in the hand

For curling up in a chair with a hot soup or rice dish (it's a bit too small for noodles), this bowl is hard to beat for its satisfying feel. The rim provides a secure grip and the foot protects your hands from the bowl's hot contents. It fits perfectly in the hand. While I don't use the lid very often, and it's a bit awkward to hold, it does sit nicely on the bowl to keep the heat in until serving time.
